RedRat to launch a new version of its TV set top box testing and monitoring product
New product version includes a display and navigation panel to simplify installation and improve operational feedback
RedRat Ltd, a leading supplier of hardware and software for automating TV set-top box testing processes, is launching a new version its set top box testing and control product, the irNetBox. The new product version is intended to give set top box manufacturers greater control over stress testing processes and simplify installation and use. Full capabilities will be unveiled in Q1 2016.
RedRat’s new product version, the irNetBox – MK-IV, has a number of new features including a built-in OLED display and navigation panel to simplify its installation and management on customer networks. The display can also be configured to display client-specific testing information, such as the type, frequency or duration of tests being conducted.
Other features include a real-time clock (to enable autonomous testing functionality directly from the device itself), Power over Ethernet (PoE) support and extended API capabilities. There is also an expansion header to accommodate RedRat’s recently developed RF modules (currently supporting RF4CE or Bluetooth LE) which will facilitate mixed infrared and RF control in environments with heterogeneous groups of set top boxes (STBs). This is in response to changes occurring in set-top box manufacturing and growing demand for the enhanced interactivity and usability that RF remote controls provide.
RedRat products are extensively used by set-top box manufacturers worldwide to automate routine stress testing processes of end-user interactions. RedRat products can be used as a standalone solution or integrated with in-house test frameworks or third party tools.
The new irNetBox – MK-IV will be fully compatible with all other RedRat products including the latest version of Test Manager (a software tool developed specifically for DTV testing processes) with enhanced Python-based scripting.
“We have incorporated many new features into this version of the irNetBox in direct response to customer requests,” says Chris Dodge, Technical Director and Owner of RedRat Ltd. “Improved usability and management combined with an enhanced specification and design should assist QA departments as they setup and operate their test environments.”
The irNetBox–IV will be commercially available 2016 and will offer backward compatibility with all previous product versions.
